Question: What are the requirements to take the "New Riders" course?

You will need to provide your own riding gear (over-the-ankle boots, DOT approved helmet, eye protection, long pants (preferably heavy fabric like denim or leather), long sleeved shirt or jacket and full fingered gloves). You must also know how to ride a bicycle and have a license to drive a car.

Question: Do I have to have my own motorcycle to take the course?

No. Students use one of our Harley Davidson® Street motorcycles for the course.

Question: Do I need to have a temporary motorcycle permit/license?

No, it is not mandatory that you have a temporary motorcycle permit/license to take the New Rider Course®, but it is encouraged.

NOTE: Be advised if you haven't taken the computerized temp test at the DMV before you complete the course, you will have to take it in order to get your license endorsed.

Question: How many people are in each class?

In our program there are 6 students and 1 instructor for each class. A Range Aide assists over the weekend.

Question: How long is the course?

The course is 25 hours long and it is mandatory that student be present for ALL portions of the course.

NOTE: You must also pass the online e-course from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation 30 days prior to the classroom portion. Upon registering for our riding class we will issue a code to take the online course at no additional cost.

Question: What are the class times/hours?

The approximate class hours are as follows:

Class Times/Hours:

Thursday 4:30-8:30pm (Classroom Orientation)

Saturday and Sunday 7:00am to 12:00pm (Range Group A)

Saturday and Sunday 1:00pm to 6:00pm (Range Group B)

Monday 4:30pm -8:30pm Graduation Ceremony

Question: What is the cost of the course?

The cost of the course is $325.00 + tax, which includes the use of a Harley Davidson® Street motorcycle.

NOTE: Graduates may be eligible for a reimbursement from H.O.G.® if you are a member. Also some insurance companies may offer a discount to people that have successfully completed the course.

Question: Do I need to have previous motorcycle riding experience?

No, all skill levels are welcome to take the New Rider Course®. The New Rider Course® is designed with the beginner in mind!

Question: Do I still have to take the road skills test at the DMV to get my license?

No, if you are present for ALL portions of the course and pass both the written test and the motorcycle range test, you will receive a waiver that you take to the DMV. They will then issue you your motorcycle endorsement.

NOTE: The waiver will exempt you from having to take the DMV road skills test. However you will still have to take the computerized temps test at the DMV if you haven't done so already.

NOTE: A $100.00 deposit is required to secure your spot in a class. The balance needs to be paid no later than 3 weeks before the start date of the class.
